G3SZV Mr P Billingham G4AGQ Mr G Drinkwater G8GCU Mr K Winnard GW3TKH Clubs – 60 Years Chester & DRS G3GIZ Echelford ARS G3UES RSGB National Radio Centre (NRC) at Bletchley Park Volunteers were delighted to welcome a small group of Chelsea Pensioners from the Royal Chelsea Hospital (RCH), resplendent in their vivid tunics, to the NRC in early February. Some of the vistitors had previously worked at Bletchley Park and were particularly excited to try their hand at Morse code and see the GB3RS radio station in operation. The RCH has several resident radio amateurs and a few years ago the Radio Society of Harrow, along with Tom Reilly, G0NSY (now sadly SK) helped set up both a VHF and HF station for the Chelsea Pensioners to use. Errata Regarding the TDR pulse generator article by Mark Foreman, G7LSZ/SA6BID ( RadCom , March 2024 page 70): Mark has pointed out a transcription error in the circuit diagram. He writes: “The junction between the two diodes (used for static protection) should be connected to pin three of the left-hand LMC555 not pin five.” Our apologies for the error. With the release of the new licence conditions, volunteers at the NRC are actively encouraging individuals who express an interest to tune using the GB3RS station, and where appropriate make a QSO under careful supervision. Pictured here is Daniel, making his very first SSB QSO on the 20m band, using the Flex6600, with George, SB7S in Sweden. George was particularly keen to encourage Daniel, welcoming him to the world of amateur radio. Daniel picked up the ‘radio speak’ quickly and thoroughly enjoyed reporting his 59 signal and using the phonetic alphabet when giving the callsign exchange.
